Message
from BMI (Broadcast Music Incorporated)
Dear
Association Partners:
I wanted to update you on steps BMI has taken in consideration of our
customers affected by Hurricane Katrina.
As a matter of policy, BMI always maintains a high level of sensitivity
to our customers affected by natural disasters and other catastrophic
events. Whether a large-scale incident such as Katrina or an individual
establishment damaged by fire, BMI approaches these situations with the
utmost empathy and understanding.
This is to let you know that immediately following the hurricane, all
billings, written and telephonic communications to establishments in the
areas affected by Katrina were discontinued until such time that the area
has recovered and businesses are again back on their feet. This
action was also taken following the tragedy of 9/11 and the hurricane
damage in Florida last year. Because this has been implemented as
a normal business procedure, we did not seek to publicize it and as a
result overlooked the need to inform you.
In addition to this standard customer assistance, BMI has joined with
the NRA in promoting the upcoming fundraiser for disaster relief and is
contacting all of our customer radio and television stations across the
country, requesting that they run PSAs encouraging participation in October’s
Dine For America. We will make sure you are copied on our communications
with these media outlets and notified regarding the outcome of our efforts.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to support your
efforts as we all try to assist those who have been so tragically impacted
by the recent hurricane and resulting devastation.
