Established in 1965, CMAA’s
membership recognition programs, particularly its certification program,
have become one of the hospitality industry’s most respected certification
programs. The Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation is known as “the
hallmark of professionalism in club management”. A manager
who has earned the CCM designation, the cornerstone of CMAA’s
recognition program, has demonstrated a sincere lifetime commitment
to education and professionalism.
In addition to the CCM designation, the member recognition program
includes membership in CMAA’s prestigious Honor Society and
the Master Club Manager (MCM) designation. Since CMAA’s recognition
program is a dynamic, continuing process, the Certification Committee,
with oversight provided by CMAA’s Board of Directors, works
to ensure that the program is constantly adapting to the ever-changing
club management industry.
Once again, 2006 was an active year for the certification program.
The CMAA Certification Department received 95 Certification Petitions
in 2006. Fifty-one managers earned the CCM designation in 2006, bringing
the total number of Certified Club Managers to 1,393 (21 percent
of the Association membership). There are 14 Master Club Managers
(MCM) in the Association. During the past year, 148 managers maintained
their designation by completing the Certification Maintenance Requirement
(CMR). The CMR, approved by CMAA’s Board of Directors in 1998,
mandates all CCMs to obtain 120 certification credits within their
five-year certification period in order to maintain their designation.
Also in 2006, 28 managers completed the requirements to enter the
Honor Society. The Certification Review Course was held two times
this past year. A total of 47 members attended the Review Course
in 2006.
The Certification Committee constantly evaluates the member recognition
program to ensure that it remains true to the standards of professionalism
and quality dictated by the Board of Directors and the members of
CMAA.
