CMAA Membership.
In December 2006, your Association is servicing close to 7,000
CMAA members across all membership classifications. Our manager
members represent 3,000 clubs in the United States and abroad.
More than 2,300 club managers and hospitality students joined the
Association in 2006. The average professional member’s
age of 44 years has been decreasing throughout the decade. Close
to 1,400 current members have earned or maintained the prestigious
CCM designation, confirming that education and certification remain
at the organization’s core; 14 of these individuals have gone
on to earn the MCM designation. The Association annually maintains
more than 300 men and women who each boast 30 years or more of membership – an
unprecedented commitment to CMAA and the industry! Finally, CMAA
maintains a healthy renewal rate of roughly 90 percent for Active
and Provisional members, as well as a new member annual growth rate
of 1 percent – a constant since the early 1990s.
Chapter Relations and Services. CMAA Chapters are represented by
nearly 600 officers, chairmen and directors. These men and women
devote valuable time to supporting their chapters and the Association
as a whole; they are a leading resource to the CMAA Board of Directors
and the National Headquarters staff by sustaining and backing key
issues surrounding the club industry as well as program
areas relating to our membership base. The majority of CMAA’s
50 chapters have met or exceeded their set new member goals for 2006.
The Pelican, Wisconsin Badger and Carolinas Chapters were honored
at the 2006 World Conference in Hawaii as Chapter of the Year in
each of their respective size categories of small, medium and large.
Several chapters entered in the 2006 Idea Fair for Chapters award
program this past September, with ten taking home first-place ribbons.
The Leadership Legislative
Conference (LLC). This annual eventwas
held on September 9-11, 2006, in the Washington, DC area. Another
great success, more than 200 chapter officers, national committee
members and CMAA past presidents and guests were on hand for two
days of education and camaraderie. During the “State of the
Association” address, Jim Singerling was pleased to announce
CMAA’s newest member service – Directors and Officers
Liability Insurance Program, custom-crafted for our membership. The
2007 LLC will be held in New York City in September.
Student Development and Services. CMAA has continued
to expand its professional development outlets by means of student
chapters since the 1980s. As of December 2006, the Association maintains
44 student chapters and colonies, the highest number in the Association’s
history, with more than 1,700 student members nationwide. Currently,
more than 60 percent of our student members are female, further representing
a changing trend in club management today. This past summer and fall,
CMAA granted new student chapter charters to Boston University, the
University of San Francisco and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
More than 350 student members attended the 79th Annual World Conference
in Honolulu, Hawaii this past February. Students view Conference
as the opportunity of the year to facilitate interviews, network
for post graduate and internship job positions and attend education
sessions. The Career Opportunity Showcase, offered in conjunction
with CMAA’s current online resources through ClubCareers, continues
to provide career placement opportunities for students who are looking
for club management positions. The University of Delaware was
named the Student Chapter of the Year. The Greater Chicago Chapter,
creator of the National Student Education Conference, hosted this
annual event in November. With almost 145 students in attendance,
represented by 25 colleges and universities, word of the value of
this Conference has obviously spread. Diverse education and
networking make this Conference a unique opportunity for students
to learn more about the industry than they ever could in a class
room.
CMAA has measurable numbers of student members who have continued
their professional development with CMAA after graduation. After
attaining post-graduate positions in the club industry, these students
are transferring their membership from student to Alumnus. The Alumnus
category serves as their Provisional year when they join the ranks
as club managers and work toward becoming Active members of the Association.
CMAA’s constant support of its student program will continue
to inspire and lead the future generation of club managers.
