Description: We are not the
only club in the country to have our pool towels
disappear. On any given summer day, you can
watch people get into their car with the towels securely
around their wastes. We provide a drop off
box so that as cars exit the parking lot, they can
roll down their window and deposit a towel. We
estimate we saved between 150 and 200 towels this
year.
Implementation: Seeing people
wear the towels as they got into the car made me realize
that vanity and comfort are the two reasons for this
to happen. Rather than take on vanity and comfort,
I decided to provide for it. We’ll let
you cover up all the way to your car, just give us
back the towel as you drive off. Works like
a charm. |

our four different snack bar menu tickets in different
color inks to allow for easy accounting. |

Description: When operators
think of cost saving concepts, the members seldom
see the advantage. The Los Angeles Country
Club offers its members a history of presenting numerous
wine events each year, and several years ago, the
Club embarked on an ambitious wine “futures” program. Not
only does this allow members to enjoy wines with
additional bottle age, but it allows the Club to
provide these wines at a much lesser price than current
release wines.
Implementation: The Club
has a spacious wine cellar that was redesigned to
allow easy access for periodic inventory and additional
air cooling units to maintain the optimum temperature. Club
management regularly identifies wines at the appropriate
price point, of course also during a good vintage,
to purchase for the cellar. Additional aging
will range forma few years to 15+ years. |

Description: Water Proof – We have large
computer systems in our basement area. We fabricated
sheet metal tops to cover these systems and keep
them dry in the event of water damage on the upper
floors. |

Description: Affordable Face Painting – Professional
face painters are very costly. This past Easter
our youth Activities staff decided to no longer outsource
this art. We simplified the process by creating
a small display board with various options for our
young members to choose form. In the end, the
change was a unanimous success. The membership
enjoyed seeing the youth staff, not an unknown
entertainer. The staff had a wonderful time
interacting with the children, and our department
saved over $1,000. |

Description: Contain it – We took the
labels off of empty clear tennis ball cans and used
them to store tools and other items. New labels
were made to identify contents. Clear cans
allow easy viewing. These storage cans may
be used in any department. |

Description: Farmington’s catering and
banquet offices created a directory of the top 50
members who host and attend events at the Club. When
planning and executing events, the directory is an
inexpensive yet priceless resource to help provide
personalized service to members. |

Club: The Westmoor Club
Description: This idea was greatly received
by our membership from a member services perspective
and from an operational perspective we experienced
dramatic increases in our culinary and dining room
service labor.
Implementation: The idea was very simple to
implement and is easily transferable to other clubs
during their slower periods. The concept here
was born out of necessity with many staff departing
for the season and management wishing to keep costs
to a minimum. Members were completely thrilled
to have the chef come to their table and cook a meal
that they chose. During a slower time, this
concept actually helped to increase dining frequency. |

Implementation: Once implementation occurs,
members will support the improved service of their
billing options. Convenience and service of
their billing options. Convenience and prompter
payment ease can only enhance member service and
operations. |

Club: The Reserve Club
Description: This EXCEL computer program was
constructed by scratch to control my labor costs. Targeted
labor control has allowed the Reserve Club to achieve
our payroll budget by being aware for revenue and
labor expenses on a daily basis. This awareness
allows us to make adjustments to the schedule to
achieve payroll budget/percentages.
Implementation: The idea was formatted by
myself and currently implemented in all direct report
departments. The balancing of revenues with
labor expenses directly balances member service with
labor levels. Member satisfaction has increased
dramatically since this program was instituted. |

Club: The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club and Spa
Description: Expanding housekeeping to reduce
the bottom line – Housekeeping team formed,
new revenues in first year - $60K with $80K projected
for 2007.
Implementation: A specific team was highly
trained to the Ritz-Carlton standards. Literature
was distributed to residential members. Members
warmly welcomed services, which were immediately/fully
booked. |
