Robert C. Pescatore and Rachel A. Ego, The CC Brookline

We brought all of our department heads together to go apple picking then to a pottery bar. Before we left, we picked names out of a hat. Each department head chose a Board of Governor to be the recipient of a hand-painted plate. While picking apples each department head tried to decide what to paint for each Governor based on their personality or committee position held. By pulling together all of our department heads off-site and letting them show their creative side, the team is more cohesive. The common experience is one that we still share and laugh about. When the plates were finished and delivered to the club, the staff enjoyed seeing the department heads work. When we began the event, most department heads were skeptical; however, in the end, everyone had a great time and the Board enjoyed receiving the presents.

We allow our staff to take a break during one of the busiest times of the year. This enables the club to show its appreciation for the long hours worked during the holiday season. It really boosted the staff morale ‹ they are still talking about how much they enjoyed it!
