Tom
Bertani, CCM (left) receives his President’s Award
for Citizenship from 2003 St. Louis District President
Tony D'Errico, CCM, CHE |
The
St. Louis District Chapter recognized Tom Bertani, CCM, of
The Racquet Club, for his contributions both within the club
and chapter and in the community as a whole.
This
is a portion of the text of Tony's speech:
"The
St. Louis Chapter – CMAA is, among other things, a community;
fortunately for us, it’s a very strong one at that.
During my service as an officer over the last four years,
I have come to learn something very important: like any other
community, while we will always benefit from good leadership,
we are nothing without good citizenship.
Good
citizens are driven not by a need to advance a personal agenda
or to enhance their resume, or posture their career; good
citizens do things because things need doing. They possess
that unique ability to identify need-and fill it. Citizenship,
my friends, speaks more to the relationship that exist between
community spirit and community conduct.… I am now more
convinced more than ever that continued excellence in this
Chapter will depend as much, if not more, on strong citizenship,
as it does on strong leadership. We have always been generous
with praise for our chapter leaders-and rightly so. I, for
one, am quite humbled by it.
However
we have fallen woefully short in singing the praises of our
Chapter members- the people in our community that really make
things happen. So tonight, I would like to start a new Chapter
tradition that will, in effect acknowledge the importance
of citizenship within the private Club community. Aptly named,
The CMAA President’s Award for Citizenship will be presented
to a member of the St. Louis Chapter for outstanding contributions
in this area.
It
is my sincere hope that this tradition not only be continued
by future presidents, but that it is forever embraced by our
membership as the high honor it is intended to be. I present
this award to Tom Bertani, CCM for his valuable service to
the St. Louis Chapter and our entire community."
