It’s
hard to believe the tall man with a spring in his step has
been working at Charlotte Country Club for 50 years. In fact,
his history with the club goes back even further. Mack Ferguson
worked as a caddie when he was 14 and 15 while in high school.
He left Charlotte to serve in the Army for several years and
then returned to his home town.
Besides
summer employment and the Army, Mack’s only other employer
has been CCC. He has seen a lot in his 50(+) years - generations
of families, dramatic facility changes…he remembers
the days before golf carts. Mack has worked in several areas
of the Club over his years. He loves working with the golf
operations and still enjoys his job.
Mack
has been married for 37 years to his wife Janie. They have
two daughters, Wanda and Tonya, and two granddaughters.
Mack
said he enjoys working and staying busy, both at work and
home. He has a routine of waking early, but not going to bed
too early. He recalls an old physics teacher saying, "sleep
is a habit". Mack loves professional football and perpetually
roots for the underdog. And for those that know Mack, this
probably wouldn’t surprise them.
In
recognition and appreciation of Mack Ferguson’s incredible
service to Charlotte CC, the Board of Governors have arranged
for Mack and his wife Janie to enjoy a wonderful week long
trip.
Many
thanks to Damon DiOrio, CCM, for providing this information.
