Texas Lone Star Chapter Announces Scholarship Fund

The Texas Lone Star Chapter of CMAA has announced a new endowment to honor three Past Presidents. The “SSB Endowment”, a joint effort between the Texas Lone Star Chapter and University of Houston's Conrad N. Hilton College pays tribute to Past Presidents W.R. “Red” Steger, CCM, Robert G. “Bob” Southwell, CCM, and Joan Brecunier, CCM.

River Oaks Country Club hosted a dinner on Sunday, October 14 to mark the debut of the new scholarship fund. More than 70 Club Managers, along with members of The Hilton College gathered at River Oaks CC in Houston, Texas, to celebrate the announcement and reflect on the vast influence the honorees have had on colleagues in the industry. The “SSB Endowment” is a scholarship fund for students of The Hilton College interested in entering Club Management.

Thirteen alumni of The Hilton College, led by campaign chairs David Chag, CCM (The Country Club), and Joe Bendy, Jr., CCM (River Oaks Country Club) joined forces to create the Southwell, Steger, Brecunier Scholarship Endowment.

Through networking with peers in the club industry and personal gifts, the Texas Lone Star Chapter has raised in excess of $175,000 dollars, which will be matched by The Hilton College, resulting in more than $350,000.

Many thanks to Sam Brewster, TLSC Managing Director, for sharing this information.
