The Club Managers Association of America (CMAA), in conjunction with Florida State University (FSU), is proud to announce that for the second year we will be offering the BMI Golf Management program at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida.  This five-day program will take place March 30 through April 4, 2008 and promises to be an exceptional learning experience focusing on a multitude of topics related specifically to golf and the club industry.  Through survey feedback and one-on-one discussions with CMAA members, the Club Management Institute (CMI) has found that one challenge facing many private club managers today is that of golf management. Realizing that nearly 80 percent of our members manage clubs that include golf, CMAA is dedicated to providing the most comprehensive educational opportunities available that will help to ensure you achieve your goal of becoming and staying a success in the club industry. With this in mind, BMI Golf Management was developed.

This is an example of some of the club-specific topics covered throughout the week: Working with Your Golf Course Superintendent, History of Golf, Agronomic Conditions, Golf Shop Operations, Tournament Operations, Golfer Development Programs, Business Planning as well as many others. Instructors for BMI Golf Management will consist of industry professionals from the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of America and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), as well as faculty from Florida State University.

In addition to the outstanding educational offerings throughout the week, The World Golf Village Renaissance Resort offers a variety of exclusive resort amenities to provide you with an exceptional social experience as well. Golf is a tradition at the World Golf Village Renaissance Resort. The two championship courses, Slammer & Squire and King & Bear, were designed by legends Sam Snead, Gene Sarazen, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. In addition, you will find the World Golf Hall of Fame with an IMAX Theater, The Island Hole (a perfect re-creation of the intimidating 132-yard 17th at TPC  Sawgrass), the Putting Course and an 18-hole, real grass championship layout. You may also want to take advantage of the optional top-level instruction at the first ever PGA Tour Golf Academy, or just shop and sightsee in beautiful St. Augustine. Also planned for the week are additional club tours and dinner in and around the local area.

The PGA of America and GCSAA are partnering with CMAA for BMI Golf Management. The PGA of America is the Association for golf professionals in the United States. The more than 28,000 members of the PGA of America are dedicated to growing participation in the game of golf in addition to enhancing the standards of the profession. The PGA of America has an extensive education program which covers every aspect of the golf industry including head golf professionals, golf administrators and tournament directors. Having recently celebrated its 80th anniversary, GCSAA is a leading golf organization, focusing on golf course management. Since 1926, it has been the top professional Association for the men and women who manage golf courses in the United States and worldwide. From its headquarters in Lawrence, KS, the Association provides education, information and representation to more than 21,000 members in more than 72 countries. GCSAA’s mission is to serve its members, advance their profession and enhance the enjoyment, growth and vitality of the game of golf. The Association’s philanthropic organization, the Environmental Institute for Golf, works to strengthen the compatibility of golf with the natural environment through research grants, support for education programs and outreach efforts.

Florida State University will serve as our host university. FSU is one of 18 universities accredited by the PGA of America to offer a major in Professional Golf Management. The FSU major is offered through their College of Business, which is ranked in the top 25 public undergraduate business programs by U.S. News & World Report. The PGA/PGM major resides in the Dedman School of Hospitality, which is ranked in the top 10 hospitality facilities in the country by industry professionals.

So, whether you are an experienced golf club manager who has been in the industry for several years, or someone who is managing a club with a golf course for the first time, BMI Golf Management is sure to give you the academic advantage to take you to the top of your game in private club management.
