Lawrence J. “Skip” Avery, CCM (Certified Club Manager), CCE (Certified Chief Executive), of Middleton, WI, has worked in the club industry since 1981. Previously, he managed Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh, PA; Nakoma Golf Club in Madison, WI; Wethersfield Country Club in Wethersfield, CT; Butte des Morts Country Club in Appleton, WI; Schulyer Meadows Club in Loudonville, NY; and Columbia Golf and Country Club in Claverack, NY.
Avery joined CMAA in 1987. He has served on many National Committees, including the Chapter/Member Services Committee, the Club Management Institute Committee, the At-Conference Committee for Career Services, the At-Conference Committee for Awards of Excellence and others. Avery first joined the Board of Directors in 2005.
Active on the chapter level, Avery has served as a Board Member and Past President of the Wisconsin Club Manager Foundation and as Secretary, Vice President and President of the Wisconsin Badger Chapter of CMAA. He has also been a member of the Connecticut Chapter and has served as Vice President of the Eastern New York Chapter (now part of the Metropolitan Chapter).
Avery has been active as a Chairman of the Board for the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and is a past president for the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Education Foundation. He is a Board Member of Easter Seals Wisconsin, serves on the Madison Area Technical College Advisory Board and is assistant scout master for Boy Scout Troop 940. He Avery received his Certified Club Manager designation in 1990 and has been a member of the CMAA Honor Society since 2002. In 2008, he achieved the Certified Chief Executive (CCE) designation, which recognizes his demonstrated ability to serve as the senior executive at a club.
As CMAA Immediate Past President, Avery will work with members and allied associations to develop and promote high standards of professionalism, leadership and education in club management.
