The CMAA International
Wine Society was founded in 1988 by a small group of
club managers to meet a growing need among CMAA members — to
learn more about wine and understand it as a true gift
of nature. It is through this Wine Society that members
with similar interests can join together to enjoy and
appreciate fine wine.
Through
the Society, members have the opportunity throughout the
year to come together for numerous educational programs
intended to:
Increase managers’ knowledge
in the area of wine appreciation;
Enhance managers’ awareness of wine trends;
Educate managers about the advantages of matching wine and food;
Supply managers with timely information regarding available wines, relative pricing and the quality and availability of current and older vintages of wine;
Allow knowledge,
ideas and education to flow through the industry;
Promote the concept
of “responsible” consumption
of alcohol as it relates to managers; and
Expand managers’ skills in marketing wine to club members.
Throughout the year, numerous lectures, demonstrations,
gourmet dinners and wine tastings are conducted on the
local level through regional and chapter events and at
the CMAA World Conference.
A quarterly newsletter, Wine Society News, features articles
on the pairing of food and wine. It also highlights various
wine-producing regions and countries, details upcoming
wine events, highlights wineries and discusses a variety
of wine issues from corkage fees and health concerns to
current alcohol-related legislation.
The
CMAA International Wine Society is meeting the growing
needs of club managers who are connoisseurs of both wine
and food by educating them about the art and science of
enology. Club managers have realized the need to remain
on the cutting edge with their knowledge of wine and wine
making to continue to serve their members wines that accompany
food gracefully.
Mission
Statement
To promote the knowledge and appreciation of wine
by those in the club industry through education and
fellowship, providing resources and funding for continuing
wine education.
