Shelter Harbor Golf Club is a seasonal club that operates from the beginning of May through the end of October. This six month period is fast paced and exhibits a high level of member usage. The food and beverage operation at SHGC offers elegant, seasonal food with French, Mediterranean, Latin and Asian influences. The menu offers simple things done well, using local ingredients when possible, or ingredients from specific farms. The menu also ventures into the cutting edge, including some food gastronomy techniques. Several items on the menu change every two weeks. The members of Shelter Harbor Golf Club are worldly and well-traveled, offering us the opportunity to run food that is cosmopolitan. We feature an extensive wine program and craft cocktails. The Club is open for a la carte the following days: May, June, September, and October: Lunch - Thursday through Sunday Dinner - Thursday through Saturday Golf outings, weddings, club events and private events take place throughout the week. July and August: Lunch – Monday through Sunday Dinner – Wednesday through Saturday

Shelter Harbor Golf Club was founded in 2004 and and is ranked 54th on Golfweek’s Best Modern Courses in the U.S.  Located in Charlestown, Rhode Island, the Club is 15 minutes from local beaches and 45 minutes from Providence, RI.

Brief Job Description

The Shelter Harbor Golf Club is looking to hire Food and Beverage Interns for the 2018 summer season.  The Food and Beverage Interns will concentrate on learning about the fine dining operations within the private club industry and how it affects a club operation.  Interns should expect to work in the dining room as a server in all capacities.

This position provides opportunities for the intern to be exposed to:

Service styles, such as, a la carte, fine dining, banquets, buffets, etc.

Events, such as, club events, weddings, rehearsal dinners, golf outings, business meetings, etc.

An extensive wine program where wine and spirits education is taught by our Certified Sommelier.

Working as a team member where the emphasis is respect and consideration for our members and each other.

Learning by experiencing and actively participating in a hands-on work environment.

Work directly with the Food and Beverage Manager and have access to the General Manager and Executive Chef.

The Shelter Harbor Golf Club is a high caliber club with high standards that are achievable by those who are looking to grow professionally.

Candidate Qualifications

Food and Beverage Intern candidates should be currently enrolled in a hospitality management program at their respective school.  Previous experience working within the service industry is not required, but is preferred.  Training is provided to all employees, regardless of their work history.

Candidates should be hospitality oriented team players who are looking to contribute to a work environment focused on respect for the membership and one another.

Other Benefits

Employees of the food and beverage team are offered a competitive hourly wage.  This position offers interns the ability to work 35-40 hours per week and therefore the ability to earn is presented.

Food and Beverage Interns are elligible to live on club property where housing is available and rented at a low cost.

SHGC provides employee meals during intern work shifts.

Uniforms are provided to employees.

SHGC employees are elligible to receive a holiday bonus based on performance, dispersed in December.
