Special Club Features

The mission of Metairie Country Club is to create a premier, member-owned private club whose purpose is to provide a full range of quality programs, facilities and services for its members and their families in a congenial, safe and secure environment. 

The Club is located 5 miles from downtown New Orleans. Since its inception in 1922, Metairie Country Club has served its members as a haven of leisurely social elegance. Opened exclusively as a golf club, Metairie Golf Club. The Club just completed the renovations within a repurpose area of the Club, creating a very casual mixed grille and bar. The Club completed a $20 million dollar renovation in 2009 following the damages from Hurricane Katrina and has since completed several other renovations. A complete golf course renovation of the Seth Raynor designed golf course is planned for 2021. 

 

Club is open 7 days per week, 12 months per year.

Clubhouse Manager

Brief Job Description

The Clubhouse Manager (CM) works closely with the General Manager/COO and manages all aspects of the Club in the absence of the GM/COO.  "On- the -floor" presence with the Club's dining facilities for member dining, private banquets, Club events and other member related activities. The CM provides quality leadership and contributes to the positive atmosphere of the Club and associated operations.

The CM reports to the GM/COO and leads various departments that include F&B staff, culinary team, catering department, engineering department, housekeeping staff, locker room staff, pool staff, security department, receptionist staff and valet staff.

The CM coordinates with other key department heads, primarily as relates to cooperative efforts surrounding planning, scheduling, special events and implementation of Club functions including golf and tennis events.

The CM displays a service mentality and desire to ensure members and prospective members, team members and guests are treated with respect and that their needs are proactively anticipated and met.

The CM seeks out new and innovative ways to meet and respond to the needs and demands of the ever changing and diverse age group of the membership.  He/she displays strategic thinking, excellence, passion and forethought.

The CM must maintain a "lead by example" approach while maintaining a very upbeat, "can do" and "get it done" attitude towards members, services, programs and initiatives.

The CM assures the smooth, efficient daily function of the clubhouse operations to provide its members and their guest with an experience and services which Metairie Country Club is known for. The focus is to provide an enjoyable, high quality, first class environment in an efficient manner. Proven training and management development experience a must.

The CM maintains an outstanding food and beverage operations by providing an appealing menu offering that is appropriately priced and featuring respectful, efficient and friendly service. Food and beverage is the primary focus of the CM.

Has a patient, professional demeanor with superior verbal and written communication skills.

 Must have in-depth knowledge of wine, beer and spirits.

The CM works with the leaders in the Clubhouse to plan, supervise and direct the work of all clubhouse team members, interacts with them pursuant to orientation, appraisal, discipline and/or discharge issues.

The CM is an important mentor for department leaders and team members as well.

The CM ensures that a positive and healthy working environment exists that is free of safety risks and all forms of team member harassment.

The CM assists in preparing the clubhouse operating budget and following GM/COO approval, manages and controls the operations to attain desired results.

The CM ensures that appropriate controls and cost-effective procedures related to employee payroll, purchases, inventories, supplies and other necessary expenditures are in place.

The CM provides proactive, accurate, timely and meaningful reports and analysis.

The CM keeps the GM/COO informed of all significant or potentially significant operating matters, problem areas, achievements or other matters of importance.

The CM places great importance on staff communications and interaction. He/she leads by example.

The CM is responsible for the general care, maintenance and upkeep of the physical plant and facilities.

The CM delegates appropriate responsibility to department leaders, yet remains responsible for clubhouse operations.

The CM addresses and resolves member concerns and suggestions, general service, team member attitude, maintenance and the cosmetic appearance of the facilities throughout the clubhouse.

The CM coordinates with the GM/COO, as appropriate, on clubhouse staff compensation, benefits, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions and other significant personnel actions, including keeping the GM/COO informed of significant changes before they occur.

The CM clearly understands and values the importance of staff recruitment, retention and overall commitment to quality as core drivers to Metairie Country Club’s success. The successful candidate will have supervisory experience that will be passionate about recruiting, training and mentoring this next generation of leaders.

The CM serves as a ad-hoc member of all Club committees, leads the House Committee and attends the Board meetings.

 All other duties as assigned by the GM/COO.  

Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate:

· Has at least five years of management experience in a similar, high-end club environment.

· Is a passionate and  highly motivated professional who enjoys full member engagement and  making each moment special and memorable for members.

· Has a fundamental understanding of what constitutes an “Excellent Club Experience,” and the proven ability to execute to that level.

· Displays an understanding of facilities and membership management.

· Displays a working knowledge of financial acumen, HR policies and regulations, food and beverage and the club industry.

· Is skilled in hiring, supervising, managing, mentoring and developing high achieving team members. Perpetual training and coaching skills are essential and must have a proven track record of such.

· Has an in-depth knowledge of wine, beer and spirits.

· Possesses a good sense of humor and an ability to have fun.

· Is organized, predictable, consistent and detail oriented with the ability to multi-task and prioritize competing or conflicting projects.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office, calendar software, spreadsheets, report preparation and membership database management. Familiarity with social media as a business tool is desired.

· Has strong listening skills and is able to absorb a multitude of ideas and filter to the most important and viable options for action and completion.

· Has strong management skills with verifiable strengths in “self-starting” leadership, financial performance, and “people” skills. Someone who acts with urgency yet maintains a calming presence.

· Has strong organizational and time management skills; identifying the details necessary to consistently achieve high levels of quality, satisfaction and outstanding member experiences.

· Has strong communication and facilitation skills, both written and verbal, with the appropriate personal presence, and a desire and ability to interact effectively before diverse constituencies of members, board members, committees, staff, vendors and other people who are part of the MCC family.

· Embraces the service ethic and displays a passion for providing the consummate member experience on a daily basis.

· Is a professional with a positive career track, someone who has been a “difference maker” wherever the candidate has been in the past.

· Is confident in his/ her abilities yet humble in his or her interactions.

· Has a professional appearance and demeanor and expects the same from his or her staff.

· Is a committed and lifelong learner who aspires to progress to a GM/COO role with a continuous desire to improve him/ herself.

Educational Requirements

· A Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year university or college is highly desirable, preferably in Hospitality Management.

· In lieu of degree, substantial high-end, private club or hotel/resort hospitality experience is considered.
