Special Club Features

Founded in 1901, Upper Montclair Country Club is one of only a few golf clubs world-wide to have hosted tournaments for all three Professional Golf Associations. 

The 27 hole Championship course, designed by two of golf's most prominent architechts, A.W. Tillinghast and Robert Trent Jones, Sr., offeres a truly challenging golf experience for those at all skill levels. 

Members of the Club enjoy excellent service, pristine golfing conditions, with the flexibility of no tee times. 

Club is open 7 days per week, 10 months per year.

Brief Job Description

Job Summary

Directly responsible for the management of all Club Food and Beverage areas including, but not limited to; Dining Rooms, Clubhouse Bars, Banquet events, Golf Outings and Outdoor Food and Beverage areas. Provide experiences in a manner expected by both Private Club Membership and their guests. Assures high standards of appearance, service, and politeness in the personnel of these areas. Supervises and trains dining room and bar staff in a manner which provides the highest level of service to the membership while also following within outlined budgetary guidelines.

Job Tasks (Duties)

  1. Demonstrates a hands-on approach and an understanding that full “on-the-floor” Member and staff engagement is critical to success, dresses and presents him/herself in a professional manner at all times.
  2. Enforces established rules, regulations and policies as written in the handbook and as implemented by management.
  3. Maintains a high level of visibility/involvement to ensure member satisfaction and handles complaints concerning food, beverage, and service as well as notifies the Clubhouse Manager.
  4. Recruits, trains, and supervises service staff in a way most effective in achieving the highest service levels. Has the ability to assist service staff when necessary (tend bar, take orders, serve drinks, pour coffee, serve wine). Ensures that all assigned side work is completed
  5. In conjunction with Clubhouse Manager, assists in conducting coaching sessions, disciplinary actions and evaluations of staff.
  6. Plans appropriate dining room setups based on anticipated counts through reservations and knowledge of walk-in counts.
  7. Facilitates pre-shift meeting with service staff to relay any useful information as well as concentrate on service techniques to improve.
  8. Plans, develops, and implements training programs to constantly improve service levels.
  9. Responsible for organizing events and training. Enforces programs to ensure all employees know members by name and address them as such.
  10. Performs any opening and closing responsibilities such as locking of the building, POS concerns, running daily reports, sorting server checks and ensuring quality of information to be passed on to accounting. Assures the cleanliness, appearance and safety of all dining areas and outlets, equipment and fixtures and ensures that proper steps are taken to resolve issues.
  11. Assures that all employees are efficiently completing side-work; ensures all assigned side work is completed before staff is dismissed.
  12. Assures that all standard operating procedures to cost control are properly utilized, all laws applicable to beverage operations are consistently followed.
  13. Assists in Beverage ordering and inventory process. Implements and maintains strict procedural and cost controls to ensure the maximization of profitability. Consistently monitors staff on correct alcohol pouring procedures in order to monitor beverage costs
  14. Assures that all safety standards and health standards are properly ensured to provide the safest work environment. Ensures proper grooming and uniform standards are followed by all employees.
  15. Attends scheduled F&B staff meeting and Management meetings as directed.
  16. Assists with private parties and service in all other food & beverage outlets as directed by the Clubhouse Manager.
  17. Expected to work all major club related events and work all holidays the club is open, unless given prior approval.
  18. Development of monthly tactical matrix to help establish efficiencies to the operation.
  19. Know that there may be duties of responsibility not listed here that you may be required to participate in with proper notification & training, including member programs not yet implemented.

Candidate Qualifications

Qualifications

  • A sincere desire to learn and grow professionally
  • Strong food & beverage or financial background
  • Entry level understanding of wine
  • Must possess excellent multi-tasking, communication, and leadership skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality or food & beverage preferred. Financial and IT backgrounds considered.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to work mornings, days, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Possess inherent sense of urgency for care of members and response to other professional staff
  • Knowledgeable about point of sale systems, back office accounting, and understanding of multiple partitions.
  • Experience in the hospitality or club industry is required
  • Food Manager Certified
  • Experienced training across all aspects of food and beverage.

 

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality or food & beverage preferred. Financial and IT backgrounds considered.
