Special Club Features

The Tuxedo Club is a private, member-owned country club located in the Ramapo Mountains, approximately 38 miles northwest of New York City. Founded in 1886, its facilities include an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones designed golf course, lawn tennis, court tennis, racquets, squash, platform tennis, swimming pool, boathouse, and skating rink. The club has two properties four miles apart with two full service clubhouses. There are three full service restaurants, one each at the golf house, pool complex, and at the architecturally renowned John Russell Pope designed main clubhouse overlooking the magnificent Tuxedo Lake. The wide array of outstanding facilities, along with its rich wonderful history and traditions, makes The Tuxedo Club one of the most unique country clubs in the world.

Assistant Clubhouse Manager

Brief Job Description

The Assistant Clubhouse Manager is responsible for assisting the Clubhouse Manager and overall management team in enhancing the overall Food and Beverage operations by developing, maintaining, and exceeding innovative service standards throughout the three dining venues. This individual should be a mature, highly motivated leader that is keenly organized with a sense of urgency and an exceptional eye for detail. This individual is expected to take “ownership”, along with the management team, of the food and beverage operation.

“Hands on” management is necessary for this role as a high level of expectation for an impactful presence will be required. When the Clubhouse Manager is not present, the Assistant Clubhouse Manager is the acting Manager on duty and assumes the responsibilities such as day-to-day discipline of employees in the Food and Beverage, House, and Locker Room departments.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Continuously develop and maintain Club service standards, distributing throughout all levels of service staff by way of manuals, training classes, and more
  • Ensure service levels exceed membership expectations, inspecting Front of House staff for proper uniform and etiquette, supervising an employee group including wait staff, bartenders, bussers, locker room and houseman across all venues
  • Assist with recruiting, selecting, hiring, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, evaluating, supervising performance, and carrying out disciplinary action as needed
  • Daily walkthrough of present Clubhouse properties ensuring overall cleanliness
  • In conjunction with management team, oversee the proper set, execution, and breakdown of member functions, outside party events and golf outings throughout the multiple facilities
    • Oversee preparation and execution for all golf club campus events, including but not limited to regular dining, evening golf leagues, men’s and ladies’ golf events and men’s and ladies’ paddle events – including final billing
  • In conjunction with the Golf and Racquets Professional staff, organize, implement, and execute all daily event operations required, including but not limited to: coordinating playing levels to ensure prompt and efficient dining service, on-course set-up and breakdown for all member and non-member events, and coordinating locker room assignments with event guests
  • Maintain smooth communication between Front of House and Back of House, ensuring the Point-of-Sale system (JONAS) is up-to-date and operating effectively
  • Utilize JONAS capabilities to develop reports to include in Daily Performance Report
  • Maximize food and beverage sales by identifying and targeting sales opportunities through marketing including promotions and special events
  • Maintain and maneuver Jonas Activity Management Software with ease
  • Control costs of food and beverage operation by assisting management in beverage, supplies and equipment purchasing; utilize labor reports to better understand scheduling needs; maintaining effective profit and loss controls; generating weekly and monthly reports as requested by management; responsible for beverage, supplies and equipment inventory
  • Assist the Controller with handling all information technology standards and updates at the Golf campus
  • Assist Clubhouse Manager with pertinent budget processes, including weekly payroll approval and schedule development
  • Attend weekly Food and Beverage department meetings
  • Oversee Club’s Managerial Internship program in coordination with other Assistant Clubhouse Managers
  • Exceed expectations set forth by the Club’s house committee
  • The primary duty is management; however, the Assistant Clubhouse Manager is a working manager and will be required to fill in as a bartender, server, runner, etc. as needed
  • Perform all other related duties assigned by the Clubhouse Manager

Candidate Qualifications

  • Current knowledge of Jonas Management Software, preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent management, communication, & leadership skills
  • Recognized ability to effectively build and promote a team environment
  • Must be energetic, engaging, and hands-on with member and guest relations
  • Must be able to enforce rules and regulations in a professional manner
  • Ability to make level-headed decisions and communicate efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work varied shifts which include, mornings, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays

Educational Requirements

  • A four-year degree in Hospitality Management or related field or an equivalent number of years of experience in a similar position within the industry
