Skokie Country Club was established in 1897 as a member owned, private, family-oriented social and recreational club in Glencoe, Illinois. Today, the Club is made distinctive by way of its world class facilities and services. Club amenities include a classic Donald Ross style 18-hole golf course, six Har-Tru clay tennis courts, six platform tennis courts, outdoor pool facility and 55,000 square foot clubhouse with multiple dining outlets. The clubhouse offers members a “home away from home” and is characterized throughout by quiet elegance, warmth and comfort. Brief Job Description
Skokie Country Club’s Summer internship program will provide a hands-on experience into understanding the necessary tools, procedures and work ethic needed to be successful in a private club. This position will be centered around supervising the Poolside Café and seasonal café staff with direction from the Service Director and Assistant General Manager.
Interns will have the opportunity to meet with all upper-level management, including the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Director of Golf, Director of Grounds, Service Director, Racquet Director. Interns will be expected to attend weekly operations meetings, F&B meetings and various other management meetings.
Each intern will also be responsible for submitting a summer project that is geared towards a specific area of the club’s current needs. Upon completion of this program, interns will be well-rounded in entry level knowledge as to how a private club operates.
Candidate Qualifications
The ideal candidate must be enrolled in a four-year hospitality program or related field. This candidate must also have some prior experience in the Food and Beverage industry. He or she should also have an outgoing personality, exceptional communication skills, positive attitude and be team-oriented. He or she must possess a basic understanding of restaurant service techniques, beverage and wine knowledge, and be proficient in Microsoft Office, email and POS systems. The candidate must be honest, respectful, dedicated, caring and have a strong work ethic. He or she also must be able to handle a fast paced, high-end, sophisticated work environment. The candidate is expected to be self-motivated and committed to exceeding the expectations of the membership, their families and guests.

Interns will be afforded the opportunity to attend CMAA Greater Chicago Chapter’s events, educational sessions and meetings. In addition to education for all front-of-house wait staff on service techniques and wine seminars, we require all management interns to have a valid Illinois food handler and BASSET certification. All interns will be required to hold these certification within two-weeks of the start of their program.
In addition to supervising the Poolside Café, interns will also have the opportunity to be exposed to other departments. Working alongside other department heads, interns can expect to be involved in both formal and casual dining, but also work with weddings, private parties, club events, swim events, tennis events, golf tournaments, youth activities and camp, HR, accounting, and other various club functions not directly related to food and beverage.
Skokie Country Club is pleased to offer interns with complimentary living accommodations in our dormitory housing. Interns will need to provide their own linens for bedding. He or she may also have up to one room mate of the same gender. All interns will also be upheld to the standard of abiding by Skokie Country Club’s dormitory rules and regulations.
Interns should expect to be paid on an hourly basis with overtime pay when applicable. Interns can expect on working anywhere from 35-45 hours per week. Hourly rates will be discussed and agreed upon during the hiring process.
