The United is a regional center for the arts and arts education showcasing world-class performing, visual and creative arts. The Restaurant is a shared space that is part of the overall theatre experience.  The vision is to unite the community as a hub for arts and a gathering place to enjoy dining experiences that complement the arts and private event space with endless opportunities for creative, one of a kind culinary & arts experiences.

The Restaurant provides the Westerly community and visitors locally sourced, classically prepared dishes with knowledgeable warm and polished service that is particularly mindful of guests’ timetables especially in respect to Theatre events.  The objective is to draw from local sources to the reasonable extent possible using seasonable ingredients prepared with French technique to create familiar dishes made memorable by outstanding quality and consistency with knowledgeable and exquisite service

General Manager

Brief Job Description

The General Manager will be responsible for all events, coordinating “pop ups” with renowned chefs, visualizing, creating and implementing food & beverage experiences that complement the theatres wide variety of programming.

General Purpose and Scope of Position

Plan and direct all Restaurant & Event operations.  Select guide and train staff in maintaining exceptional standards for food, service, health, and safety.  Ensure that all property assets are maximized resulting in efficient and profitable performance in all business units.  Create optimal utilization of resources to provide guests with a complete and personable experience

Operational Responsibilities

  • Meet restaurant financial objectives through preparation of strategic annual forecasting and budgetary plans for individual revenue centers
  • Develop relationships with neighboring venues and clientele; establish marketing initiatives that meet changing demands
  • Assess staffing requirements and recruit and train service roles as needed; Organize and monitor staff labor costs and reporting
  • Monitor adherence to health, safety and hygiene standards restaurant event spaces
  • Seasonally analyze food and beverage costs and programming
  • Ensure cash management procedures and daily financials are completed accurately
  • Control property wide purchases, inventory, and maintenance while regularly reviewing and reporting expenses to upper management
  • Experience with development of event programming and management; understands how to actively sell in events to enhance property value and presence

Candidate Qualifications

This role is ideal for a self-motivated hospitality professional, preferably with restaurant opening experience.  The qualified candidate will have upscale casual dining and private club experience.

Candidates should be friendly, professional, service-oriented, organized, and a creative problem solver.  

The qualified General Manager will have opening experience

Educational Requirements

Degree in hospitality management preferred
