"Must-Do's"

  • Managers take complaints/issues personally.
  • All tasks assigned to you must be done to your maximum ability, in a timely manner or not done at all.
  • Praise in public, reprimand in private.  Always explain why we do things “our” way.
  • We work for the staff.  Managers are here to serve/support our team.  We park in the furthest spot, come early and stay late.
  • We are teachers.  Train the staff every day and seek to make small improvements in staff/operations.
  • Inspect what you expect.  If you really want things to be right, don’t just ask for it to be done, make sure you are checking to make sure standards are upheld.
  • Perception is reality.  If the staff thinks you are mean, lazy or useless; you are.  Create your own reality.
  • Don’t talk about it, be about it.  We set the example for the staff to follow.  Be the hardest worker, most knowledgeable, optimistic, engaged, satisfaction driven member of your team.
  • You can’t clap with one hand.  Build relationships throughout the club.
  • Communicate to irritate.
  • Be the dumbest person in the room.  Hire for attitude first and skills second.  Never be afraid to hire those better than yourself.  Our staff makes us look good.
  • Love it or leave it!  The work we do is not easy and is not for everyone.  A hospitality manager will work insane hours, holidays, weekends and late nights.  Anniversaries/birthdays will be moved to accommodate our schedules.  Be engaged and find joy in what we do.
    1. Use all of your vacation time.
    2. Take advantage of our seasonal nature.
    3. Family and friends are always more important than work, maximize your time with them.
  • Make Raving Fans.  Don’t be timid or avoid constant contact with our members.  Great managers are visible, energized, caring and want to please at all times.  Don’t get stuck in the office.
  • Yesterday’s standard of excellence is not good enough.  We must constantly reinvent ourselves.  Never hold back new ideas and thoughts for improving our operation.
