Spotswood Country Club also has many event facilities open to our members and the public. Our Grand Ballroom can accommodate the largest of parties; serving as the perfect venue for your wedding reception or business conference. Our cozy and quaint Grill Room overlooks the 18th Green and the Blue Ridge Mountains off in the distance; ultimately creating a beautiful setting for dinner. The adjoined Shenandoah and Allegheny Rooms are perfect for smaller gatherings and showers.

Special Club Features

Spotswood Country Club has a long reputation for an exceptionally conditioned golf course and its dynamic dining club.  Nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, the 18-hole layout originally designed by Fred Finley & Edmund Ault, offers distinct challenges amidst first class conditions and incredible views. Members and their guests enjoy a wide variety of golf activities including: tournaments and special events, private group instructions, men’s and ladies’ teams and leagues, fun-filled junior programs and much more. Members can also dine in the member dining room and enjoy dinner & cocktails in the bar/lounge area. A patio section, adjacent to the member dining room, is a popular place during warm months as live entertainment from local musicians play on Friday Nights. Members enjoy dining specials including Lobster Night, Dinner for Two, Family Style meals and more. Overlooking the winding road to the clubhouse entrance, sipping a glass of wine on the patio with friends, or having a family dinner to end their day.

Position Responsibilities:
The Banquets and Events is a key member of the Leadership Team at the Spotswood Country Club and will be responsible for all banquet and event operations, in addition to ensuring all departments work together to provide the best member experience possible. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing and fine tuning a banquet service team in a similar level club. This “take charge” individual will possess a strong emphasis on event management and service standards. 

Banquet and Event Operations:
The clubhouse has many options for events including the Grill Room, Shenandoah, Allegheny and the Grand Ballroom that can accommodate private parties and banquets for up to 200 guests.

Candidate Qualifications

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promotes, advertises, and markets the club’s social event facilities and capabilities to all members.
  • Helps member clients arrange banquets, luncheons, meetings, weddings, dances, holiday events, and other social occasions; obtains pertinent information needed for guest planning.
  • Provides guest tours and offers suggestions in efforts to sell the club’s facilities of the occasion being planned.
  • Works with the General Manager and the Executive Chef to determine selling prices, menus and other details for catered events; oversees the development of contracts.
  • Suggests and helps guests plan menus in conjunction with the Executive Chef and/or other culinary personnel.
  • Supervise inventory management and cost control through purchasing, receiving, and calculating usage for all food service locations.
  • Transmits necessary information to and coordinates event planning with production, serving, and housekeeping staffs; arranges for printing of menus, procuring of decorations, entertainment and other special requests, etc.
  • Inspects finished arrangements; will be present to oversee the actual greeting and serving of guests.
  • Checks functions sheets against actual room set-up; oversees personnel scheduling for special functions and may help supervise service personnel.
  • Oversees the scheduling of banquet service employee meetings.
  • Handles client complaints.
  • Foster good relations with members and their guests, as well as with civic, governmental, business and community leaders.
  • Maintains past and current client files; schedules calls/visits to assess on-going needs of prospective clients for catering services.
  • Make recommendations for capital purchases and improvements within area of responsibility; develop catering budgets, review financial reports and takes corrective actions to help assure budgeted goals are met.
  • Help guests with parking needs, entertainment, decorations, audio/visual and any other requirements integral to events being planned.
  • Participate with other senior managers with respect to the overall management and successful operation of the clubhouse.
  • Participate in Committees as assigned.
  • Obtains proper permits for all events; arranges prompt payment for all events.

Participate in continuing education to enhance career development and technical areas of expertise.
 

Educational Requirements

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 2+ years’ work experience in a private club or hotel setting with a strong emphasis on banquet and event planning and operations.
  • 1+ years’ experience as a Banquet Manager or Marketing at a like size club.
  • Four-year college degree in hospitality, business or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to effectively interact with members, guests and team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Computer skills to proficiently use Word Suite, Publisher and club point-of-sale/ accounting software.
  • Jonas POS experience considered a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written or verbal instructions independently and to a high degree.
  • Knowledge of proper table service, event set-up and event execution.
  • Experience in fine dining.

Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures and hold staff accountable.
