St Andrews Bay Yacht Club – Club Manager OVERVIEW: St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club is seeking an experienced hospitality/club manager to help us in expanding our services to our club members, prospective members and the community in general. This full-time position offers a balanced quality of life for an experienced professional. 

Club Mission: is to promote and provide support for the sport of sailing, power boating, water safety, and related activities; as well as provide facilities for its members to share common interests in a social atmosphere of mutual camaraderie, both on and off the water.

GENERAL FACILITIES, MEMBERSHIP & OPERATIONS DESCRIPTION: The St Andrews Bay Yacht Club facilities, located on Panama City, FL include: 

  • A main club house with a large two-level outdoor deck surrounding a historic live oak, large dining room, lounge bar, full kitchen and upstairs ballroom that hosts member social events, rental events including weddings and various civic programs. 
  • A free-standing two-story sailing center (currently under re-model).  This building is used for events, sailing program and storage of sailing equipment.
  • A large swimming pool and sun deck for members and member’s guests.  
  • The club operates a strong youth sailing program and waterfront facilities that include club docks, boat ramp and overnight mooring. 
  • The club annually hosts many prestigious national and international sailing events and has a strong reputation as one of the premier sailing venues. 
  • Gross revenues in excess of $1,200,000.
  • Nearly 300 members with close to 220 Full Dues Equivalent. Average monthly dues +/- $60,000
  • The Club operates Tuesday thru Sunday year-round with modified winter hours.

THE CLUB MANAGER POSITION: 

The Club Manager manages the operation, facilities, and activities of the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club, delivering value and service to our membership. The Club Manager must have “a keen eye” for details in service techniques, point of sale /event systems, wedding sales and service, and the general appearance of the club. The Club Manager must be visible at the appropriate times with a professional management/supervisory appearance and presence to ensure member and guest satisfaction. The Club Manager must be a charismatic, passionate professional and have outstanding membership relations and communication skills, both in written form and verbally. The position requires strong operational management skills along with the ability to interface and support a volunteer board. 

Specific Responsibilities (include but not limited to): 

  • Implement the policies, directions, vision and objectives of the Board of Directors. 
  • Work with and support the Board of Directors in the hiring and management of staff to support the operations of the club. 
  • Overall supervision of club and dock facilities and ensure appropriate maintenance and upkeep. 
  • Manage the office, bar and maintenance staff. 
  • Support the sailing activities, social events, and children’s programs. 
  • Receives and handles all member complaints 
  • Utilize the club software system to develop efficiencies and improve service to our membership.
  •  Working with our treasurer, assist in the creation of the yearly budget and be responsible for the pro-active monitoring of budget vs. actual. 
  • Pro-active in the area of expense containment without diminishing levels of member service or product quality. 
  • Participate and provide meaningful reporting of the management of the club at Board meetings 
  • Execute the performance review process for direct reports. 
  • Reports to the Commodore (and Board of Directors) 
  • Experience in managing a hospitality or restaurant management or membership-driven organization, preferably a yacht or sailing club.
  •  Strong interpersonal, communication, and people management skills; ability to establish an effective working relationship with staff, membership and Board of Directors.
  •  Professionalism, diplomacy, tactfulness – to generate positive club image to potential and existing members along with guests and club renters. 
  • Strong organizational skills and is self-motivated 
  • Resourceful in addressing problem situations 
  • Proficient in using software technology. 
  • Full time management position.  Health benefits are available.  

Candidate Qualifications

Prior club management is preffered but not required.  The right candidate should have a history of successful management in either the resort, club or hotel setting.  The candidate should have strong verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate well with the staff, board of directors, and the membership as a whole.  

Educational Requirements

A 4 year degree is preferred but not required.
