Special Club Features

Portage Country Club was founded club in 1894 in what was known as the old West Hill Residential area of Akron. In 1906 the club moved to the present location at the corner of Twin Oaks and Portage Path. For 124 years Portage Country Club has been a family club, with many second and third generation members. It is a place of recreation, dining and leisure for its members and guests. A quiet place in the busy world, a place where they can feel special.

The Members at Portage Country Club have high standards and the Staff is dedicated to making the member and guest experience exceptional. The Staff understands it takes dedication and teamwork. Our role is to make Portage Country Club our member’s preferred destination when thinking of recreation, dining, or leisure activities.

Brief Job Description

2021 Experienced based Summer Internship

Freshman and Sophomore Students

Focus will be on on service and hospitality basics, this internship is designed to prepare a student for a management internship in the future.
Entry level positions in assigned area and the opportunity to demonstrate technical proficiency and member service skills.

Juniors and Senior Students

Based on experience, internship will focus on management experience.

Supervisory responsibilities will be given for a designated area.
One scheduled workday a month in another department such as Accounting, Tennis, Golf or Grounds to broaden your knowledge of a club operation.
Guided projects such as planning of a member event, the employee newsletter, etc.
Attendance at Club Board meeting and weekly management meetings.

Candidate Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years old at the time of the internship
Responsible for any paperwork required by their school to receive course credi
Follow PCC established handbook policies
Work on assigned projects in a efficient manner
Must be pursuing a High School, Undergraduate, or Graduate degree
