General Conference Information

CMAA’s Leadership/Legislative Conference (LLC) scheduled for September 13-15, 2008, highlights expert presentations on leadership skill-building and legislative/regulatory developments that will have an immediate impact on volunteer management and your chapter members. This highly participatory program has been designed to provide you, CMAA chapter officers/directors/chairmen and national committee members, with the education and training necessary to successfully accomplish your chapter and related leadership goals.

You will have the opportunity to attend interactive, informative sessions on:

  • Leadership and chapter outreach;
  • Time management and team-building;
  • The “State of the Association”;
  • Legal, tax and governmental issues updates;
  • Strategic development and thinking; and
  • CMAA resources forum.

Who Should Attend

While all CMAA members are welcome to attend the 2008 Leadership/Legislative Conference, elected chapter officers, directors and committee chairmen are especially encouraged to attend. Chapters are urged to send more than one representative – particularly, current (2008) and incoming (2009) presidents – to this important leadership training conference, as staff and other experts will provide assistance with planning/program ideas for the upcoming year. This is also an invaluable educational event for chapter managing directors; chapters that employ this viable position should consider sending this individual in addition to elected officers and chairmen.

Certification

Up to fifteen (15) CMI-education credits will be granted to all conference attendees who fully participate in and attend all scheduled programs.

Attire

Dress for this three-day conference (all educations sessions and meetings) is business attire. Saturday evening networking reception at CMAA’s National Headquarters is business-casual, which is defined as creased slacks, collared shirts and non-athletic shoes. For Sunday’s club dinner, suits for the gentlemen and comparable attire for the ladies is appropriate.

Tax Deduction

Educational expenses incurred while maintaining or improving skills required by an individual in his/her employment or business are tax deductible. Educational expenses include tuition, books, local transportation, travel, meals and lodging while away from home when a trip is primarily to obtain education (Treasury Regulation 1.162-5).
