Board Retreat Promotes Fundamental Outcomes
Connecticut Chapter
Entry Details
In their first weeks in office, the 2025 Board launched the chapter’s first-ever Board Retreat, establishing the groundwork for long-term success. This one-day retreat yielded transformative results, identifying and acting on key initiatives. The board started by creating a new mission statement that better reflected our current times. Using the mission statement as their guide, they captured member voices through a member survey and streamlined governance by consolidating seventeen committees into nine committees. Building on the first five years of their Corporate Sponsorship Program, they created a new program designed to be more appealing and engaging for sponsors and members. Other milestones included adopting the CMAA Event Code of Conduct and establishing a private board webpage to protect the Board’s integrity. These initiatives promoted accountability and alignment, ensuring the board operated with a unified vision that directly reflects member priorities.
Implementation
The retreat was held at a member club and led by a professional moderator, providing structure and focus. All initiatives identified at the retreat have been executed, including the mission statement, survey, committee restructuring, sponsorship package updates, and the integration of the code of conduct. Member feedback is encouraging, emphasizing the board's focus on the entire membership. They appreciate the clear mission statement, the opportunity to influence priorities through the survey, and the improved efficiency due to the streamlined committee structure. Members and sponsors will benefit from the inclusive partnership program. Chapter leaders now use the board webpage as a practical resource for information and continuity. The retreat will occur annually to establish strategic leadership goals aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability, and member-led leadership.
