Chapter Idea Fair
Choose Your Own Adventure: More Education. More Connection. More Fun.
Golden State Chapter
Entry Details
TGSC challenged the assumption that Chapter education has to look like traditional Chapter education.
Choose Your Own Adventure combined member choice, experiential activities, professional education, Chapter business, and networking into one program:
Unique Venue + Member Choice + Education + Chapter Business + Fun = An Event Worth Attending
At Wing & Barrel Ranch, members selected their own experience—Archery, Clay Shooting, or Catch & Release Fishing—before coming together for a Chapter Business Meeting, three-course lunch, and Halleck Vineyard wine education.
Members could receive 3.5 Chapter Education Credits plus 1 Activity Credit, while experiencing a program designed equally around learning, participation, and connection.
The format created smaller shared experiences at the beginning of the program before bringing the entire group together. Relationships developed naturally through the activities and continued through education, lunch, and Chapter business.
The innovation is not the individual activities. It is the formula: member choice becomes part of the educational experience.
The result was a fresh approach to Chapter programming without sacrificing professional-development value.
Implementation
TGSC started with a unique local venue and built the program around choice.
Rather than requiring every attendee to have the same experience, members selected Archery, Clay Shooting, or Catch & Release Fishing. The Chapter then brought everyone together for a Business Meeting, three-course lunch, wine education, and continued networking.
The result was a program offering 4.5 total available credits without feeling like 4.5 credits of traditional classroom programming.
Just as important, the concept is highly replicable. Another Chapter does not need archery, fishing, or clay shooting to use the model.
The formula is:
Find a unique local venue → Give members a choice → Add meaningful education → Incorporate Chapter business → Bring everyone together
The model could work with culinary experiences, wellness activities, sports, cultural venues, or experiences unique to a Chapter's own region.
For TGSC, Choose Your Own Adventure showed that keeping Chapter education fresh doesn't always require adding more content. Sometimes it means rethinking how members experience the content—and each other.
