Chapter Idea Fair
Every Webinar. Double the Value.
Golden State Chapter
Entry Details
What if a Chapter could increase the professional-development value of its programming without adding another meeting to the calendar?
CMAA members need credits throughout their careers—for professional development, designation advancement, maintaining the CCM designation, CCE, and Honor Society recognition.
TGSC looked at the education members were already attending and asked how we could make that time work harder for them.
The Chapter began pairing online Educational Webinars with brief online Chapter Business Meetings, creating two Activity Credit opportunities from one connected experience:
1 Educational Webinar + 1 Business Meeting = 2 Activity Credit Opportunities
The webinar supports professional development. The Business Meeting keeps members informed and engaged with Chapter, CMAA, and industry updates, upcoming programs, and professional opportunities.
TGSC also strategically organizes eligible webinars around CMAA core competencies when appropriate, creating opportunities for qualifying members participating in a series to convert eligible Activity Credits to CMI Credits.
The impact is measurable: 955 Activity Credits have been awarded to members for online Business Meeting participation following our webinars.
TGSC did not simply create more meetings. We created more value from the time members were already investing.
More Credits. More Value. More Engagement.
Implementation
The strategy begins before a webinar takes place.
Where appropriate, TGSC organizes related webinars around CMAA core competencies so individual programs can work together as an educational series. Eligible virtual education is tracked for Activity Credits, and qualifying participation in a series is reviewed for CMI conversion opportunities.
TGSC also incorporated a brief online Chapter Business Meeting into the webinar format. Members who participate receive another opportunity for an Activity Credit while staying connected to Chapter news, CMAA information, industry updates, and upcoming opportunities.
The Chapter created a consistent process:
ATTEND → VERIFY → REVIEW → SUBMIT → POST
Attendance is verified through Zoom participation records, reviewed by TGSC, submitted to CMAA, and ultimately posted to eligible members' CMAA records. Clear attendance standards and regular processing allow TGSC to administer a significant volume of credits consistently.
The result: 955 Activity Credits awarded for online Business Meeting participation, in addition to the professional-development opportunities created through TGSC's broader virtual education strategy.
The model is highly replicable because it uses resources many Chapters already have: virtual education, a brief Business Meeting, attendance tracking, and a consistent credit-management process.
The approach changed the question TGSC asks when planning education. Rather than only asking, “How many programs are we offering?”, we also ask: “Are we helping members make the most of every hour they spend with us?”
