Entry Details
The 2025 Student Development Summer Program is a thoughtfully designed, immersive experience aimed at preparing interns for successful careers in club management. The program offers a comprehensive blend of educational workshops, club tours, professional development sessions, and networking opportunities. Its mission is to provide students with hands-on learning, expose them to real-world club operations, and foster meaningful relationships within the club management community. The program supports personal growth, expands industry knowledge, and encourages interns to build a strong professional foundation as future leaders in the private club industry.
Implementation
The program kicked off with a vibrant networking session led by Joyce Halama, highlighted by an innovative “Conversational Scavenger Hunt.” This interactive activity encouraged interns to authentically connect by finding peers who matched specific traits, experiences, or interests such as similar professional roles or unique hobbies. The exercise reinforced the use of the F.O.R.M. method (Family, Occupation, Recreation, Motivation), empowering students to practice meaningful and confident conversation skills. Throughout the summer, interns participated in educational sessions, club tours, and valuable mentorship opportunities with industry professionals. Two in-person education days were hosted in partnership with club tours and lunch, featuring Tom Olson of Club Benchmarking, who explored the Club Business Model, and Tricia Kilpatrick Smith, who led an engaging session on Business Etiquette. Additionally, a virtual education session with Tom Olson offered a deep dive into banquet financial statements. The program’s blend of structured learning and purposeful networking provided interns with the confidence and connections needed for future success. Feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, emphasizing the supportive environment, enhanced growth, and the lasting relationships built for their club management careers.
