Upper Midwest Chapter

Entry Details

The Upper Midwest CMAA Chapter leads in developing the curriculum for the UW Stout’s fall semester Club Management Class. The Chapter enlists Club professionals for 9 of the 12 fall semester classes addressing 9 core competencies that CMAA embraces. The enhancment to our Chapter is the preparation of the students for future careers in club management.  Through a combination of classroom discussions, practical case studies, and immersive field experiences that include Chapter Club visits, this course offers an in-depth exploration of the operational intricacies that distinguish club management from other areas of hospitality. Students engage with real-world scenarios and industry best practices, emphasizing the importance of adaptability, collaboration, and strategic decision-making in club leadership. Special attention will be given to fostering a member-centric culture, navigating complex governance challenges, and enhancing the overall quality of service delivery.

Implementation

Our chapter members have reacted and responded positively by making internships available to these students and ultimately hiring many of these students to start their club career journey.  In concert with professor Dr. Eric Brey the Club Management class is designed for students seeking a comprehensive understanding of the nuanced world of club management within the broader hospitality sector. Blending theoretical foundations with practical insights, HT 352 delves into the operational, financial, and interpersonal facets that define successful club leadership. Students are encouraged to critically analyze current industry trends, participate in collaborative projects, and reflect on the evolving expectations of club members and stakeholders.
