In 1931, the Great Depression had taken hold and CMAA's membership growth had stagnated. The Association began publishing "The Bulletin"—a newsletter sent to prospective members as a recruiting device. This publication was also sent to organizations in allied professions—club vendors, a move that permitted a far wider understanding of club endeavors and the professional role of the club manager.
