Clubs for military officers and noncommissioned officers have been a a hallmark of the military's upper echelon for decades. However, connection between private clubs and military clubs wasn't encouraged until the 1960s. In 1961, CMAA leadership began a relationship with the military through the Strategic Air Command Club Award Program, which sought the help of CMAA members in reviewing Air Force officers' and NCO clubs. Over time, the award program expanded to included other branches, and it went on to help improve the operations of these military clubs for the purpose of raising morale.
