The CMAA Certification Program was officially implemented in 1966. In subsequent years, that program was strengthened, reinforced, and enlarged, including more rigid specifications and a final written examination. At CMAA's 40th World Conference in 1967, the national board reported that there were 241 members who had achieved the newly minted Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation with another 61 petitioners in progress. Another 140 CMAA members completed the rigorous five-year club management diploma program supervised by the Club Management Institute. The 1960s proved to be an important time for the progression of the profession of club management.
