83 years ago, World War II was in full swing. In 1943, the World Conference (then called a Convention) was not held, due to the United States' increasing involvement in the conflict. CMAA met again in 1944, but not in 1945 as the War continued. In our 75th Anniversary book, this time was remembered: "the club managers would face multiple challenges in the years ahead. Club membership was immediately affected by the number of members who went off to serve in the armed forces.... club managers lost employees as men and women sought to fulfill their patriotic duty.... Wartime restrictions affected the availability of food, services, provisions, and supplies of every kind as the nation mobilized for a wartime economy."
