Ninety-six years ago, CMAA introduced its first code of ethics—a heralded occasion as having a Code of Ethics was seen as a basic standard of practice for a legitimate national organization. The need for the code was based on the desire for professional status of club managers. "Beyond that the managers sought guidance from the code in matters such as dealing with club members seeking preferential treatment, ordering supplies and services, recruiting managers from other clubs, and addressing the ongoing, ill-defined relationship between club managers and their boards and the general membership."
