A Creative Touch; Weekly Art Groups

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

When we think of recreation at our clubs, we are no strangers to dominoes, mahjongg, canasta and other classic gatherings. In 2025, we also asked our members how else we could support their creativity and were proud to introduce our weekly knitting group and painting “Open Easel” sessions.

By introducing these groups, the Club expanded its programming in a simple, member-driven way. They increased engagement and strengthened our artistic community while requiring minimal staff time or budget. These additions also created new opportunities for connection.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

The knitting group was introduced as a casual meet-up, giving members a space to work on projects and learn from one another, requiring little more than an open room. Separately, a weekly painting group, “Open Easel,” was launched by setting up easels, tarps, tables, and chairs to create a welcoming studio-style environment. A minimal $10 fee was charged to cover labor costs, and members brought their own supplies, keeping expenses low.

Both groups were met with overwhelming enthusiasm, with sessions filling weekly and the painting group extending beyond its original end date, reinforcing how simply listening to members and creating space for their interests can greatly enhance the overall club experience.
