Christmas Pajama Party: A Signature Holiday Experience
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
What began as a simple children’s holiday gathering has evolved into one of Houston Country Club’s most anticipated and consistently sold-out seasonal traditions. The Christmas Pajama Party is a carefully curated, immersive holiday experience designed for young members ages 4–10, while providing families with a trusted and highly valued offering during one of the Club’s busiest dining weekends.
The event is structured as a supervised, three-hour drop-off experience, allowing parents to enjoy holiday dining elsewhere on property while remaining nearby. Held annually on the Saturday before Christmas, the Pajama Party intentionally aligns with peak dining demand, increasing restaurant dining covers and easing pressure on our family dining kitchen.
Children arrive in their pajamas and step into a whimsical holiday environment featuring a playful “breakfast-for-dinner” buffet, themed games and activities, cookie decorating, karaoke and dance parties, holiday movie shorts, and a hot chocolate bar. The signature moment of the evening is the reveal of a custom sleepover-style setup—complete with teepee tents, blankets, and pillows—creating a memorable, highly visual experience that elevates the event beyond a traditional children’s party.
Demand for the Christmas Pajama Party has grown organically over time. What initially allowed guest participation has evolved into a members-only event exclusively for children and grandchildren of members. Attendance is intentionally capped at 80 participants to maintain quality and safety, with registration now selling out weeks in advance each year.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The Christmas Pajama Party is planned collaboratively by the Youth and Catering teams, with culinary support providing food service and the Youth team executing programming and supervision. While activities are not rigidly age-zoned, staff support allows younger children to participate comfortably while older children naturally engage alongside siblings and peers—creating an inclusive, family-centered environment.
Member response has been overwhelmingly positive. Families value the balance of independence for children and convenience for parents, with 100% of attending families choosing to dine at the Club during the event. Many families return year after year, and the Pajama Party has become a tradition members anticipate as part of their holiday calendar.
Beyond attendance, the program has strengthened family loyalty and reinforced Houston Country Club as a trusted partner in creating meaningful holiday experiences. Its consistent sell-out success, operational alignment with peak dining demand, and ability to create lasting memories have positioned the Christmas Pajama Party as a cornerstone of the Club’s holiday programming.
