Idea Fair
Commodore Takeover Night
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
“Trading their blazers for aprons! Join us for a one-night-only takeover as our Commodores past and present step into the kitchen, dining room and bar. Featuring a special abridged a la carte menu.”
Commodore Takeover Night enhanced operations by giving Club leadership firsthand exposure to front and back-of-house workflows. By working alongside staff in the kitchen, bar, and host stand, leadership gained a deeper understanding of service, staffing demands, and real-time operational challenges but more importantly, had a great time alongside our team.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
We kept the evening simple and well organized by offering a streamlined menu and clearly defining roles, allowing Commodores to step into their positions without disrupting service. Our department heads and senior staff were on hand throughout the night to guide and support, ensuring everything ran smoothly.
Commodores arrived early for training, a staff meal, and the pre-meal meeting. We paired Commodores directly with staff and kept the atmosphere light and collaborative, so the event felt seamless and fun rather than formal. This approach boosted member engagement, as we invited diners to walk through the kitchen during service and see firsthand the hard work being put in by everyone. This energized a typically slower dining night and created a great experience for all involved.
