Idea Fair

Communal Table

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

During the winter of 2018, we renovated our family dining room, The Grille. The goal was to keep the same casual family atmosphere with a modern face lift. To that end, the addition of a communal table was designed as the center piece of the room. The hope was for the table to become a common area for our members to enjoy each other’s company. During the morning, we lay out newspapers on the table which is near our complimentary coffee station which has made it a place for our Members to take a few minutes to relax before their day begins. During busy dining nights, it has become a hub to meet new families and to turn an acquaintance into a friend.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

The communal table was introduced on the reopening of the dining room. The Member's reaction was originally split along generational lines. The younger Members were used to the concept and embraced it immediately. The older generation wasn't sure what to make of it. Now, I would same most everyone embraces the concept and it has become a staple during family night and 1st Friday.
