Idea Fair
Dill-ennial Pickleball Open Play
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The Club identified an opportunity to better engage younger members by creating a welcoming entry point into social pickleball play. In response, the Racquet Sports Department launched Dill-ennial Pickleball Open Play, a targeted program designed specifically for members ages 21–44.
This relaxed, social format provided a low-pressure way for younger members to be introduced to pickleball, learn the basics with guidance from Club professionals, and connect with peers. By intentionally programming for this age group, the Club filled a gap in social pickleball offerings, increased participation among younger members, and strengthened engagement through an active, inclusive experience.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The program began as an introductory open play session led by Racquet Sports professionals, combining instruction, friendly competition, and a social atmosphere. The event generated immediate enthusiasm, with strong turnout and positive energy from participants.
Due to the overwhelmingly positive response, Dill-ennial Pickleball quickly evolved from an introductory opportunity into a monthly recurring program. Members have embraced the concept as a fun, approachable way to learn the game, build confidence, and meet new people, while the department successfully addressed a previously unmet need for younger-member pickleball programming.
