Docktail Parties

Winner

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

Docktail Parties at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club were a fantastic way to bridge the gap between different segments of the membership, fostering a sense of community by bringing together members with different interests. These events provided a relaxed and enjoyable setting for social interaction, allowing newer and active members to mingle and connect. For social members who might not be as involved in boating activities, Docktails offered an avenue to feel included in the club’s social fabric. It broadened their engagement beyond traditional activities and helped them feel more integrated into the club culture.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

We held the Docktail Parties once per month, with each event being held in a different areas of our 252-slip harbor. Different locations offered varying atmospheres and views, which also helped us to ensure members from different parts of the harbor were able to attend events closer to their own vessel. Members who attended appreciated the opportunity to mingle in the harbor, an area they might not otherwise frequent. We also had a live music component, which added to the vibes for the evening and encouraged members to stay longer. Social members who were interested in becoming boaters were also able to learn about the ins and outs of boat ownership.
