Idea Fair

Engine Fanning

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

The Toro 300-gallon sprayer is a very useful tool in Golf Maintenance when needing to spray large acreage such as fairways and roughs. Unfortunately, it has a design flaw that hinders its ability to be extremely useful – until now. The flaw is that the engine will overheat during hot weather, causing the sprayer to stop spraying – and in extreme situations – shut completely off. We created a solution to fix the problem: installing fans on the body of the sprayer on each side of the engine. One fan pulls air into the engine to cool it, and the other fan blows the hot air out of the engine housing. This has resulted in keeping the engine cool enough to apply the pesticide on any day, even in July and August.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

This idea was implemented out of a need to be able to apply pesticides in a timely manner with no downtime, as to not interfering with members enjoying their round.
