Idea Fair

From Pools to Park

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

Our Pool Center offers a resort-style atmosphere that extends far beyond swimming. In addition to multiple pools, the area features bocce courts, putt-putt, volleyball, ping pong, grassy open spaces, picnic tables, and a cozy fire pit - making it one of the most versatile recreational areas at the Club! Rather than closing this space at the end of pool season, we chose to reimagine its use during the off-season. By installing secure fencing around the pools, we create a safe, park-like environment that remains accessible to members year-round. Families can gather for picnics, children can burn energy by playing volleyball or enjoying the open green space, and the Club can use the area for safe Easter Egg Hunts, private events, and so much more! This approach maximizes the use of existing amenities, increases off-season engagement, and provides parents peace of mind by ensuring the pool areas are nice and secure.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

The concept originated as we explored ways to host events and encourage family use of the Pool Center during the off-season, while maintaining the highest safety standards. With the pools inactive, it was essential to eliminate any potential safety concerns. To accomplish this, we implemented secure, temporary, easy to install fencing each year in late October, which is removed in early April. The fencing fully encloses the three pool areas while keeping the remainder of the space open and accessible. The result is a controlled, family-friendly environment that allows members to enjoy the area with confidence. Member feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Families value the enhanced safety, the flexibility of a year-round outdoor gathering space, and the unexpected benefit of having a parklike setting available at their convenience. These improvements significantly elevated member satisfaction, driving a substantial increase in the Pool’s Net Promoter Score and helping the Club achieve an overall Net Promoter Score of 75—an accomplishment that earned Marin Country Club the distinction of Troon Privé Club of the Year.
