Garage Gym Makeover

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

During the height of the pandemic, the Farmington Fitness team wanted to create a safe, socially distanced environment to accommodate our members. Our challenge was finding an available location that would meet our fitness needs and allow us to develop additional programming. Our solution was to develop a classic, at-home garage-style workout space right here at Farmington!

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

We converted a centrally located storage garage—a space previously used by the golf department—into a brand new workout area. It is a perfect space for personal and small group training. With the ability to raise the garage door, the space allows for ample sunshine and fresh air. During the summer, we offered Coach K's Boot Camp—utilizing free weights and other light gear—private and semi-private suspension pilates, and even aerial yoga!

The garage space has been very popular for members who do not feel comfortable visiting a large gym, or who simply want a different work-out environment. It has given us an opportunity to expand our specialty offerings, generate additional revenue, and enhance the member experience. By offering aerial yoga, we were even able to attract a younger demographic to our group fitness programs, giving parents an additional way to get their kids active at the club.
