Grounds Sustainability
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Utilizing new technology such as the TurfRAD System aided in more efficient and effective water management strategies at the club. How it works: TurfRAD sensors give us a daily synopsis of volumetric water content in the soil profile at a depth of 4" which we then use to adjust our sprinkler system runtimes.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The costs associated were $6,000/sensor (we have 6), $8,000/year subscription fee, and $250 to build metal frames to carry the sensors on the carts. However, the savings on water usage, the improved playability of the course, and the impact on lower water usage in a state like Colorado has made this a great operational change for the club.
Members have noticed an improvement in play and the savings for the club mean savings to our golf members in dues.
