Idea Fair
Historic Speakeasy
Honorable Mention
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
Our prohibition inspired speakeasy experience, named Divers & Wood after two families integral to Farmington’s 19th-century legacy, was designed to surprise and delight members by transforming an underutilized space into a hidden, historically inspired venue. Rather than simply launching a new bar, the concept was unveiled through a months-long narrative rollout beginning in October—featuring hidden clues in the Holiday Guide, newsletters, and custom matchbooks. The mystery surrounding Divers & Wood generated exceptional engagement during a traditionally quieter season, increasing foot traffic and deepening member interaction with Club communications. Operationally, it fostered strong cross-department collaboration as a section of the Club’s historic basement was transformed into an intimate, small-plates and craft-cocktail venue. The beverage team was energized by the opportunity to develop a Prohibition-style menu with festive flair, adding depth and creativity to Farmington’s culinary offerings.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
Implementation began with the intentional rollout of clues. The phased discovery process built excitement across all member demographics. Behind the scenes, F&B, Facilities, Communications, and management worked together to revitalize the basement space and script a fully immersive experience. Members were escorted through lower-level corridors to enter the speakeasy, amplifying the sense of exclusivity and surprise. A preview for the Board and House Committee—complete with a guided entrance through the Club’s basement and historic wine cellar—generated rave reviews. Member response was overwhelmingly positive, with praise for the creativity, historical integration, and originality of the concept. The Divers & Wood speakeasy quickly became one of the Club’s most talked-about and celebrated experiences.
