Idea Fair

Manager in Development 4 Phase Program

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

To effectively train and track our MIDs progress, we implemented new phasing criteria. Our program is now 4 phases with outlined objectives, skills to build, milestones, and evaluation metrics for each phase.

P1: Foundational Operations & Service Skills

Focus: Develop an understanding of front-line service operations, hone food and beverage fundamentals and gain cross department exposure.

P2: Suit-Up Shadowing & Administrative Task Exposure

Focus: Begin developing leadership presence and administrative skills. In this phase there will be a mix of serving and suit up shadowing.

P3: Independent Leadership Part 1

Focus: Execute small events and lead dining podiums independently.

P4: Independent Leadership Part 2

Focus: Develop full readiness for leadership position and full ownership of administrative responsibility.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

This idea was implemented to provide greater structure to our program. The phased approach has proven effective for MID evaluation and allows us to individualize the program, recognizing that some participants may develop more quickly or more slowly than others. This updated structure has made the MID Program more clearly defined and helps participants understand when to expect certain milestones. Our membership enjoys getting to know our MIDs and has appreciated watching us develop leaders from within, as many MIDs have advanced into Food and Beverage Manager roles on our team at the completion of the program.
