New Member Boxes

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

For the 2025 Senior Member class, we introduced New Member Welcome Boxes to create a more personal and engaging onboarding experience. While our new member onboarding website remains an effective resource, we wanted to go a step further by giving new members something tangible that reflected the Club’s culture and introduced them to each department.

Each box included personalized contributions from across the Club, including custom wooden coasters made in-house, complimentary tennis and sailing lessons, food and beverage vouchers, membership cards, login credentials, a car burgee and stickers, staff business cards, personal notes, and a new member booklet addressing common questions. We also included a book highlighting the history of the Bay Head Yacht Club to help introduce new members to the traditions of Bay Head.

This approach helped streamline onboarding, reduce common questions, and build early connections between new members and staff, and set a welcoming tone for the season ahead.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

Once the new member class was finalized, we used a consistent box template and personalized each one based on family needs, such as including children’s milkshake vouchers when applicable or cocktail vouchers for adult households. Most items were created in-house or through existing Club resources, keeping costs minimal while maximizing value.

New member feedback was very positive. Several members reached out to say thank you and shared how excited the boxes made them for the season ahead. The personalized wooden coasters were frequently noted as a special keepsake. Overall, the boxes opened lines of communication early, made new members feel genuinely welcomed, and helped build enthusiasm well before the season began.
