New Member Mixers- Building Retention Through Existing Connection
How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?
The New Member Mixers have enhanced the Club’s operation by providing a structured yet highly social platform that accelerates relationship-building and strengthens early member engagement. By intentionally connecting new members with the Board of Directors, Membership Committee, sponsors, and fellow newcomers in a relaxed setting, the Club shortens the onboarding curve and fosters a stronger sense of belonging within the first year of membership.
Operationally, the mixers add a high-impact, no-cost engagement touchpoint to the membership development strategy, supporting retention without adding administrative burden. The events also increase visibility and approachability of Club leadership, encourage sponsor involvement, and consistently generate organic participation beyond the formal program, reinforcing the Club’s culture as welcoming, social, and community-driven.
How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?
The New Member Mixers were implemented as a recurring program built into the Club’s annual membership onboarding plan, with intentional involvement from the Board of Directors, Membership Committee, and new member sponsors. The format—a casual nine-hole, four-person scramble followed by a social gathering with live music, open bar, and chef-driven bites—was designed to remove formality and encourage natural interaction. By offering the event at no cost and hosting it multiple times per year, participation remains accessible and consistently strong.
Member reaction has been exceptionally positive. Existing members regularly volunteer to fill open spots, “party crashers” often arrive simply to mingle afterward, and many members request invitations even beyond their first year—clear indicators that the event has evolved into a highly sought-after social experience and a cornerstone of the Club’s membership engagement strategy.
