Observatory Field Trip

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

In addition to the plethora of youth activities held on Farmington grounds, we also hold a handful of off-site field trips. One of the most unique trips in 2022 was a visit to the McCormick Observatory at the University of Virginia. This added an educational component to our programming.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

Our group used Farmington’s private shuttle service to make the trip. The group experienced a private tour of an area not typically available to the public. The kids learned a lot about astronomy and even got to look through one of the world’s largest telescopes! Member feedback for this event was extremely positive. Parents loved the educational component to this trip. It was an excellent opportunity to learn from the faculty at UVA and give the kids a fun, hands-on experience.
