Idea Fair

Rockwall

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

Aqua climb pool rock walls are becoming a huge hit at pools across the country! However, with a price tag of over $12,000, it wasn’t within our budget to purchase one for our pool. That didn’t deter us; we decided we could build a pool rock climbing wall ourselves for a fraction of the cost. Making it a priority to build the rock wall at the beginning of the summer, it only cost us $500. We included multiple safety features, and brought in a structural engineer to evaluate and ensure the safety and integrity of the wall. In order recoup the initial cost of $500, we sold $5 all-day climbing wristbands, making our investment back in one weekend! The rock wall is a huge hit at the pool and has added a unique offering to our aquatics program that’s fun for our all members.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

We implemented this idea by purchasing all the wood through a hardware store and then purchased rock climbing holds off Amazon.com. Our chief engineer ensured the wall was stable and locked into the ground. When our members saw they wall, they were surprised and very excited. With one difficult side and one easy side, both parents and kids are constantly testing their luck on the wall. One of the goals we gave everyone for the wall, was that if you made it to the top and rang the bell, you get to sign you name on the back of the wall showing that you completed the rockfall challenge!
