Shell Recycling Program

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

With our club being located within ½ mile to the beach and the Atlantic Ocean, this program is a huge money saver regarding trash. It not only is a good feeling for employees and members to take care of our coastal lifestyle, but also provides a sense of pride for food products and the quality of buying fresh and local oysters, clams, and mussels.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

This idea started with the culinary/kitchen staff. We shared video clips and information via email to members and they love this idea of giving back to our coastal habitats. In conjunction with the American Littoral Society in NJ, we partnered with their program and provided about 500 pounds of shells just within the first few months of the program rather than simply tossing these shells into our trash bins. We are introducing this program and spreading the word to other local clubs for a larger impact on our coastal habitats.
