Idea Fair

Slumberfest

How has this idea enhanced your club's operation, etc.?

Beloved by generations of members for decades, the DAC’s annual family events, such as father-son and father-daughter parties, each have their own traditions.

In recent years, the Club has built upon these traditions by increasing and enhancing its youth and family programming and creating the position of Youth & Family Activities Manager.

A relatively new event at eight years of age is Slumberfest, during which several floors of the DAC are overtaken by children and their parents enjoying age-appropriate meals, live performers, movies, swimming and other activities.

How was this idea implemented, and what have been the club members' reactions?

The 2023 Slumberfest expanded its boundaries by offering late-night bowling for pajama-clad kids, taking a space typically reserved for adults and allowing children to use it in a nonformal, fun yet respectful way.

The Slumberfest experience was extended beyond its conclusion as families booked Club overnight rooms specially outfitted with kid-sized tents, creating a camping experience in downtown Detroit.

Members gave the enhanced Slumberfest extremely high marks, commenting on the wide variety of activities, the effectiveness of live performances and the excitement of young members upon seeing their overnight tents.
